School Age Child Care

Providing programs and services to children is Austin ISD's #1 priority.

Austin ISD provides after-school child care to children enrolled in seven elementary schools. Third Base Child Care, "A Safe Place Before Going Home", offers more than baby-sitting. Program staff develop and encourage activities which enhance the host school's curriculum. This process of "aligning" the after-school program with that of the school allows students to expand their learning opportunities and take advantage of "teachable moments" ? opportunities to learn.

Third Base programs meet state child care licensing requirements. While school-operated programs are exempt from these requirements, Third Base voluntarily chose to seek licensing for all of its sites. This would ensure uniformity in safety, health and staff training in the program. Thus, all Third Base sites a state-licensed child care centers.

Third Base Child Care is provided at Cook, Davis, Doss, Metz, Odom, St. Elmo and Williams elementary schools.
